Is Multi-parametric MRI the new screening tool for prostate cancer? PROMIS trial opens at Spire.

The national trial to establish the true accuracy of prostate MRI has been opened at University Hospital Southampton. “This study will likely lead us towards a reduction in unnecessary biopsies” says Principal Investigator Tim Dudderidge. Study patients Are tested at Spire Southampton using an optimised scanning protocol that meets the latest European Society of Uro-Radiologists Guidelines. “The scan can identify abnormal areas of the prostate and allow urologists to target biopsies and treatment” adds Mr Dudderidge who uses the scans to direct focal HIFU treatment. “More importantly, many may be able to avoid unnecessary biopsies and this study will provide the evidence for us to make this change.
